A good indie film utilizes the elements it has and downplays those it might miss. In the case of THE DOORS BETWEEN US, the good elements are most definitely actors and a solid script. The lacking ones include a choice of location and overall cinematic visual potential. Yet, this doesn’t ultimately hurt the film. Here's how it describes itself:

Eight complete strangers are tested like never before when they wake up locked inside a mysterious house. With no memory of how or why they are there paranoia takes over, forcing them to make their own decisions on who to trust and how best to escape.

Developed by Janky Jank Productions, THE DOORS BETWEEN US sets out as a horror. There, its warped lifeboat scenario is quickly divided among different characters. All of them are unique and easily distinguishable between each other, which is a big plus for the film right off the bat. 

Then, in no time at all, all these different creatures start to interact with each other and try to solve their predicament. Throughout all of this, a strange mixture of comedy and horror keeps the audience engaged and maintains a connection with both the situation and those finding themselves in it.

Yes, the film would do well with some high production values and more consistent use of camera angles and the overall non-verbal atmosphere. But having in mind that this is an indie movie, the results of the modest set up on more than impressive.

As the simple setup slowly builds and builds the film gets a stronger hook into its viewers. While the resolution itself might be hit-and-miss for many, the actual experience of watching this almost play-like movie is well worth the time for any independent film fan.

There are a lot of references in this film. So many references, in fact, that for me, they manage to drown out any relatable essence. As a depiction of a time gone by, Tarantino has a lot to say, or at least to observe. Yet when it comes to connecting with the characters he seems to struggle where and how to focus, apart from regret. The same applies to the nature of storytelling he tries to use. Story Line

Story Line
The movie is about two siblings, Kaashi  and his sister Ganga. When Ganga goes missing, Kaashi starts the search to find her, but the main challenge begins when people refuse to even believe that Ganga exists. Devina plays a journalist who helps in the search for Ganga.Kaashi lives happily with his parents and sister Ganga. One evening his sister does not return home from college. He starts looking for Ganga along with Devina. He files a police report later that night and keeps his own search going. Next day, the college principal checks the records and informs that Ganga does not study there. She questions the character of Ganga which enrages Kaashi. He beats up some local goons who claims to have information on his sister but refuse to divulge it.Devina finds one of Ganga's college friend who is ready to talk though seems frightened. She informs that Ganga was having affair with Abhimanyu. She has not seen Ganga since Ganga got pregnant. Enraged Kaashi threatens Balwant to return his sister safely. Balwant informs him that Abhimanyu is in Mussorie. Devina and Kaashi travel to Mussorie where Kaashi finds Abhimanyu with another woman in a hotel room. Abhimanyu pleads that he does not know any Ganga and is killed by Kaashi who is then arrested.A disfigured dead body of a girl is found which is identified as Ganga based on the clothes she was wearing. The case moves to court. The lawyers fight things out. Some witness say they haven't seen Ganga or her parents. Some say they exist.Kaashi's parents are also not found at home. Amidst the confusion, a psychiatristtalks to Kaashi and informs the court that Kaashi is suffering from schizophrenia. An argument breaks out between him and Balwant in court.
